It was just before ten pm on a Friday and though we were guaranteed a dry and fresh evening, it had not stopped pouring down rain! Brian and me were seated there commenting on the recent footy, prepared for the next job of the day to come in. In due time we had the call from a lovely woman on a company trip who had arrived at the BP petrol garage in Ovingdean and filled the wrong fuel in her diesel buff Peugeot 3008 hire car in error. She was quite troubled apparently, crying "I can't believe I've wrecked the car! I am just so used to filling my petrol car I had forgot I was running a diesel!" I advised her to take it easy and not to fret, also that these things can happen. She was able to maneuver the vehicle to a safe spot and, as it was no more than a few minutes off from where we were, we could arrive at her fairly quickly. The contaminated fuel was cleaned up and removed so she could get back to the hotel she was lodging in. Despite the fact that we got really soaked, it was all worth the time to watch her drive off satisfied and less anxious. One more fuel drain in East Sussex done well in my opinion!

If you've mistakenly put the wrong fuel in your car and now need to have the wrong fuel removed you are very likely searching the web searching for a fast, reliable, qualified and affordable fuel drain company in Ovingdean or East Sussex. We are the service for your needs!

The 3 things you SHOULD know about fuel contamination!

AdBlue In Your Diesel

All over East Sussex we are noticing a growing number of cases of AdBlue contamination wherein somebody has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel tank. This is to a certain extent a result of motorists not being totally sure the way to use it (important: it's in truth not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are typically right near to each other on the car.

Now, exactly what is the issue with having AdBlue in the diesel vehicle?

Because AdBlue is predominantly deionised water, it's nearly as good as putting water into your tank. Diesel and water tend not to mix at all and attempting to run a diesel car on water will never work. Furthermore, the urea is very corrosive to your fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystalising, blocking injectors and filters. In the case you put AdBlue into your fuel tank remove it at once. And certainly be careful not to crank the car - not even to move it off of the pump. In the event that you have started the vehicle you will almost certainly have to have the entire fuel system purged and filters replaced.

Phone us in the event that you are a casualty of AdBlue contamination. We will help you. We are Specialists in dealing with contaminated fuel and have the ability to handle every type of AdBlue fluid contamination.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
